Lighting Wizards can perform any or all of these services,
depending on specific client’s requirements.
Several large corporations have recently requested us to
prepare best practice reports for their new construction, gut rehabs, and
retrofits. These reports include appropriate footcandles for various tasks,
types of fixtures, such as suspended indirects for offices, specific lamps and
ballasts, and controls. One company had a chiseled in stone corporate spec of
HPS in interior hibay and wanted our help to provide sufficient ammunition to
change the spec. After these projects, we understand how valuable it is and look
forward to do best practice reports for other clients.
This is often the most important, but undervalued stage. This
includes approximate quantities for the two to five most common type of
fixtures, existing wattage, options for retrofitting or replacing, pros and cons
of options, approximate installed costs, savings and rebates. This also includes
a meeting to discuss the options to determine what are your best solutions.
Investment grade audits
Often following the feasibility study and meeting, an
investment grade audit can be performed. It includes accurate quantities of all
of the appropriate lighting fixtures, detailed fixture and control
specifications, savings, incentives and realistic parts & labor pricing. This
applies to both feasibility studies and investment grade audits. We can usually
save at least 15% more wattage than competitors.
Material specification
We really understand the fine points of performance of
various lamps, ballasts and fixtures. What many people, including lighting
professionals, consider ‘as equal’ or ‘better’ are really not. An
example is new T8 fixtures. If specific ballasts are not specified, these
fixtures usually come with generic instant ballasts, that each can consume $20 -
$40 more wattage over its rated life. We think that is very important to focus
on lowest mercury per lumen-watt-rated lamp life and leadless solder solutions.
Bid documents
Documents for contractors are prepared to fair apples to
apples bidding.
Third party review
Unmatched third party review of retrofit/relighting, remodel
and new construction proposals, making sure that end customers get the best
total value
We have very good relationships with numerous retrofit
contractors that specialize on certain types of projects. If a client does not
want to deal with the hassles of the bid process, we can run projects through
one of these other contractors and project manage it. If a client wants to bid
the project out, we can also oversee the project as the owner advocate.
Commissioning
Comprehensive commissioning services, for occupancy sensors,
photocells and other controls
Utility and 3rd party energy efficient incentive
programs
We have a good track record of helping utilities and third
party initiative programs and look forward to help additional entities.
Positive cash flow financing
If money is an issue, we can help arrange positive cash flow
financing, which allows clients to do entire lighting only projects or
comprehensive energy projects other energy savings projects with no out of
pocket money. Every month the electrical savings would exceed the finance
charge. We make no money from any of the finance institutions.
Seminars
and workshops
Stan
presents 25 to 50 seminars and workshops a year for utilities, IESNA, lighting
designers, architects, manufacturers, and end customers. The seminar topic page
at www.lightingwizards.com shows the diversity of the topics of these one
hour to full day events. Stan can also create customized presentations for
specific purposes.
State agencies
Stan has helped right several reports for California Energy
Commission’s Title 20 and has assisted the Commission’s Pier Program. This
consulting could be expanded to other state agencies.
Stan is an adjunct researcher at the California Lighting
Technical Center. Because of the low overhead, research and testing can be done
very affordably. Stan has also been assisting Brian Liebel with his USA
Department of Energy research on spectrally enhanced lighting.
Foreign
markets
In the summer of 2007 Stan began assisting the NRDC (Natural
Resources Defense Council) regarding high performance fluorescent lamps and
ballasts, which are made in China for the United States and other countries, but
not currently used in China. Similar work could be done for other countries.
